Here you will find simple little tips that you can use to make your home a little more environmentally friendly - step by step.
You will find more detailed explanations on some of the aspects in other blog posts. The main purpose of this collection is to provide spontaneous inspiration.

Live plastic-free
Use bar soap packed or unpacked in paper as hand soap and body soap
Use glass as a refrigerator, continue to use jars of food
Cover leftovers in bowls with plates
Choose plastic-free kitchen utensils: cutting board made of wood or bamboo (avoids plastic abrasion), spatula made of wood or metal, bowls made of glass, porcelain or metal etc.
Use old kitchen towels / scraps of cloth to wipe them up, then simply put them in the washing machine
Use dish-washing brushes made of wood and natural bristles and sponges made of natural materials
Watering can made of ceramic / enamel, or simply use an old glass bottle for watering
Also see INCREDIBLE BULK for plastic free alternatives!

Save electricity
Use multiple plugs with switches and place them easily accessible/visible - switch them off at night or if you are not at home for a long time
Check the refrigerator temperature, if possible or necessary, turn down
In particular, switch off (at the wall) devices such as washing machines, TVs, dryers, etc.
Switch bulbs to LED's, even if the existing bulbs are still functional
It is better to ventilate a few times a day instead of repeatedly or use natural ventilation and slightly open windows in your home

Save Water
Install water-saving attachments for the shower head and taps
Turn off the taps while brushing your teeth
When rinsing by hand it is better to fill the basin instead of rinsing in the running water
Use the dishwasher, if you have one, as it saves more water than washing by hand
Only switch on the dishwasher and washing machine when fully loaded
Shower rather than bathe and keep it to 10 minutes max
Try taking a cold shower
Store food properly
Dairy products such as yogurt and curd will last longer if you turn them upside down in the fridge, so there is no air
Store potatoes and onions in a dry and dark place (cover with a kitchen towel) to prevent sprouting
Place the carrots in a glass of water in the fridge to keep them crunchy for a long time or to refresh carrots that have already softened
Unpack vegetables and fruit (if packed in plastic) as quickly as possible! Otherwise, the products in the packaging begin to "sweat" and spoil within a few days
Wrap beetroot in the fridge in newspaper to prevent drying out
Exotic fruits such as mangoes, bananas, melons and pineapples, as well as all citrus fruits, should not be stored in the refrigerator before being cut, they will go bad faster
