Make way for more Nature in your Garden

Recently we have experienced a change in our seasonal weather, more rain, winds and less light.
I looked at my garden with new eyes when our fences were blown down and our tangled overgrown hedge died back so much it fell apart!
Initially I quoted for a fence, but thought whats stopping this from happening again. I decided to looking again, not only for a fence that could withstand the next storm but also one that would allow more nature into my garden and revive some tired looking plants.
So I ordered trellis and started installing it around the garden where the worn out fence once stood. The diamond shape allows the wind to push through but the sturdy structure provides a barrier that keeps the dogs secure in the garden.
There are many type of trellises to choose from! I went for this style as it had big enough gaps to easily allow hedgehogs, toads, mice and other visiting animals to wonder through . The trellis has given new perching heights for garden birds, an opportunity grow plants up it. I hope this will encourage more birds into the garden as it will be a safe place to hide in the foliage, while forging for berries and insects.
The natural light is a big change for growing potential. Now it allows light through where it was shaded, meaning the will (hopefully!) grow more. This increased my gardens species richness, in animals and plants. The added mulch created by foliage debris helps enriched soil and encourages much needed critters such as worms.
If you fancy yourself a bit of DIY why not make your own trellis.
Woven Stick Trellis

Interweave branches into a grid pattern and tie them at the joints with twine. Fresh tree pruning's, bamboo, willow, or clippings from shrubs work best. The most common patterns are either a diamond cross structure or a more square weave. A bonus about building a trellis yourself is you can decide how large you want the gaps to be.
