Welcome to Our Future!

In my first post I would like to tell you briefly what Our Future is for me and hopefully how it will help your future.

This blog is dedicated to the topic of sustainability in your home, garden and local community, as well as what sustainability actually means in a broader contexts.

A few years ago, I started to focus more on this very topic. I can't really say exactly what triggered it, but it started with small steps, such as consuming less meat, no longer taking plastic bags with me to the supermarket, and not using other single use plastic items, such as straws. These are very small things. I hardly noticed them in everyday life, but I already felt that it was making a little change and was right for me to act in such a way that it didn't harm our planet at all or less. You feel like a little hero! One step at a time.

It went on and on. The jump to a completely vegetarian diet came very abruptly to me (although recently have been trying insects as an alternative sustainable protein source). The reduction of plastic in my everyday life became a kind of curiosity - how many plastic objects can I exchange for a more environmentally friendly materials and what can do without as they are unnecessary luxuries items. There are alternatives for most conventional products.

It feels good to reduce my effects of the planet!

I can promise, in spite of the many difficulties that one encounters when trying to live a more sustainable way of life, it is fun. It brings strange satisfaction, life with less plastic, less consumption and more colourful food.

In addition to all the changes that I brought about in my life. I have become more informed, and knowledgeable on all the big issues, such as; climate change, global warming and its consequences, politics, potential solutions, plastic pollution, organic foods, and packaged issues. I dealt with issues such as food waste, electricity consumption, what my bank is investing in and which bicycle helmet I should buy.

Yes, it is a lot!

… I could list more and more things now, but I think you understand what I want to say.

Sustainability is an attitude that can be integrated into pretty much all areas of life. Its versatility and adaptability allows for one to interpret sustainability in many way. It can be overwhelming! That was exactly the impression that I had when I started to deal with the topic.

Where do you start - how do you know your making a good decision?

With Our Future, I want to address this problem. Here I will share with you all this information and experience that I have already gathered, so that it no longer appears as intimidatingly huge, but one topic after the other.

I would like to inspire you to take part, to consider one or another change in your life. If every one of us walks through the supermarket a little more consciously, looks at where the products come from, what is included, or even leaves out the straw, switches to a green electricity provider, buys the next cell phone or thinks of the cloth bag when shopping, then so much has been done.
